Although it is called a spaniel, the Irish water spaniel is
actually a retriever and is sometimes know by its nickname -
the whiptail. It has a coat of liver coloured tightly knit
curly coat with a high oil content that makes the dog ideally
suited for water work.
Other breeds of retrieving dog include the curly coated
retriever, the Chesapeake Bay retriever and the Nova Scotia
duck tolling retriever.
